Stelvio Pass. The Stelvio Pass is one of Italy's most legendary roads. A favourite particularly with bikers, it crosses between the two neighbouring regions of Lombardy and Trentino Alto Adige South Tyrol . Aside from the stunning Alpine scenery that the route passes through, it's most notable for the extraordinary number of hairpin turns.
Being close to the Stelvio Pass at this gathering, open to all, there was a large number of Lotuses present who decided to add these 2 days to the first 2! Dolomites: Busy Monday morning saw us set off on time in the direction of Passo Gardena, where a breathtaking panorama made a brisk ascent more enjoyable.
It's the Umbrail pass which leaves us just short of the Stelvio summit. We then return to Livigno riding down the Bormio side of Stelvio. Day 5: We head back over Stelvio and transfer to the heart of the Dolomites in Colfosco for our next two nights. Doing so we will ride the Jaufen pass and have a go at the Italian side of the Timmelsjoch.

The pass has been featured in the Giro d’Italia and has been the Cima Coppi (or highest point of the race). It’s one of the most famous passes in the Dolomites. The road is pretty steep, hitting a 12.5% of maximum gradient through some of the ramps.
However the Dolomites do receive snow in the Winter time. It’s a popular ski area. Not all the passes will be open in Winter time. So you won’t be able to drive the route with the Passo di Mauria and the Stelvio Pass. In Summer everything books up fast in the Dolomites, Winter is also a busy season for the Dolomites.
